POLICE DEPARTMENT:

bills is done. He stated that this evening they approved bills at $125,000.00
and $63,000.00. He stated that it takes a lot of money to run a township and a
lot of money to run a police department. He stated that when he was a young man
growing up, his grandparents used to tell him how bad things were during the
recession and he noted that he paid attention. He stated that when he first got
married, during the first Carter administration, things were pretty bad and he
recalled the interest rates being at about 17%. He thought that was the worst
economic times he had gone through until recently. He stated that times are hard
and noted that they receive appropriation sheets routinely and he looks at his
year-to-date costs and his unencumbered balance and he walks around shutting
lights off. He stated that everyone is probably wondering where he is going with
all of this, to which he stated that he knows how hard times are right now and
that he appreciates the residents supporting the police department. Chief Del
Calzo then asked the Board for a motion to approve the hiring of a part-time
officer/dispatcher. He stated that this person has worked for the township in
the service department and he feels he would be a good hire for the police
department.
Mr. Wayman presented a motion
to hire Chris Anderson as a part-time officer at a rate of $15.45 per hour and
as a part-time dispatcher at a rate of $15.50 per hour. Mr. Anderson seconded.
